Mboacare

Making it easier to find and manage healthcare facilities.

A mobile healthcare platform developed during my Outreachy internship with Mboalab, from May to August 2023.

Role
UX research, UX design and content
When
May–August 2023
Mboacare home experience before and after navigation and content refinements.

Context

Find and manage hospital information.

Mboacare helped people find hospitals and check available services. It also helped facility owners register hospitals and manage their information.

The problem

Support three user groups.

People did not have one reliable source for hospital details, services and opening times. The product also had to support patients, healthcare professionals and administrators.

What I worked on

Research, flows and prototypes.

  1. 01Researched the needs of patients, healthcare providers and administrators
  2. 02Mapped the hospital search, account and facility-management journeys
  3. 03Designed and tested low- and high-fidelity mobile prototypes
  4. 04Wrote product content and contributed to documentation and authentication work

Design decisions

Changes that made tasks clearer.

01

Label the navigation

The first version used icons without labels. I added labels and used four sections: Home, Hospitals, Blogs and Account.

02

Create one Account area

I put settings, password changes and language preferences in one Account area.

03

Show hospital details

I added hospital pages with service and contact details. I also designed a separate flow for owners to add and edit hospital information.

Final experience

The product after testing.

The refined work brought discovery, account settings, articles and facility management into one mobile system. These are original screens from the project.

Reflection

What I learnt from testing.

Usability testing reinforced how much small structural decisions matter. Clear labels, a useful account area and richer hospital information improved the journey more than decorative changes would have. I would document testing data earlier and include more hospital administrators in future scenario testing.

Return to the work taking shape now.
